SUMMER READING : CHECK OUT BOOKS
Diana went to the Service Center XI Lib2Tell Conference 2018
and heard about a summer reading program
that you have students check out books from the school library for the summer.
They suggested up to 7-12 books for the younger grades and 3-4 novels for the upper graders.
We are looking into getting book bags for them to put the books into and getting the parents to sign a permission/sign up form that allows to student to check out the books for the summer. Two summers & it is a very successful program!

GIRLS CAN CODE
This was the one we said, "Why did we not start this earlier?". We attended ISTE 2017 & heard about "Girls Who Code" from founder Reshma We wanted to encourage our girls (grade 2 - 4) to see that Coding was COOL! So we developed a before school club named GIRLS CAN CODE. They meet once a week before school and we introduce different Coding activities to them; as well as, encourage them to choose any coding activity they want to investigate. Resources we have used: Bloxel; Code.org; Kodable; Made with Code ; Dot & Dash Robots; Spheros; Bee Bots; BlueBot;... |

ROBOT COMPETITION AGAINST ANOTHER SCHOOL
Two elementary campuses...Google Sheets...Robot Programming Challenge...
Grade level teams...Post timings... Crown weekly champs...
Okay--it worked...very high student participation...the students loved it--
and liked that they were competing against another school.
So many were interested in participating that the logistics to run the program made
it impractical to run with our other job demands that kept requiring our attention.
(Maybe we could program a robot to oversee the competition.)
So we are looking at different way of doing it.
